During the weeks of the Institute, the working day (Monday through Thursday) was divided into time blocks to reflect the routine of daily life in Athens and to accommodate the summer heat. Afternoon sessions from 4 PM to 7 PM are devoted to lectures and seminars led by Institute scholars. On Thursdays between 7 PM and 8:30 PM the Director led a summary discussion of that week’s lectures and seminars. The schedule of lectures, seminars, and summary discussions was punctuated by a midday meal between 2 PM and 4 PM and dinner after 8:30 PM. From 10 AM to 2 PM participants were invited to make use of local library and museum collections, open in the morning and early afternoon in the summer. Programmed visits to museums, libraries, and local archaeological sites will also take place in this time block. Five-person, un-moderated Working Groups are scheduled in this time block on Wednesday in Weeks 2 and 3. Fridays were left open for individual research.
For a list of the readings that accompanied the seminars each week, please see Required Readings.
